Oasis of Hope

Decent Housing - Unfunded Finalist

Oasis of Hope demonstrates Christ's love in an under-resourced community by elevating and improving the quality of neighborhood life through empowerment and partnerships. As part of this mission, Oasis builds and rehabs quality, affordable housing for families in Bickford, a majority African-American community north of Downtown Memphis. The combination of the housing needs in the Bickford community is heightened by the specific needs of its large elderly population, many of whom are living in substandard rental housing.

Currently, the organization is working to complete the last development phase of a new subdivision. The organization seeks funding to assist in the building of three safe and affordable, single family homes uniquely designed for senior adults. The homes are slated for construction this fall on lots owned by Oasis of Hope that are within a few blocks of its senior program at Bickford Community Center. This project will complete the final three lots of its 40-lot subdivision that has had countless partners, including the City of Memphis, Tennessee Housing Development Agency, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Habitat for Humanity, President Jimmy Carter, and numerous other foundations and nonprofits.
