Fund Tops $2 Million in Grants

Total includes weekly distribution of $95,000

(May 26, 2020) The Community Foundation announced May 22 the latest round of grants from the Mid-South COVID-19 Regional Response Fund. This fund is the unified community relief effort to support organizations impacted by novel coronavirus and the economic consequences of the pandemic. To date, individual, corporate, and foundation donors have contributed $3,356,316 to the fund.

The tenth round of rapid relief grants totaled $95,000. Those grants went to the following nonprofit organizations:

  • ALLMemphis: $5,000 to provide learning packets and supportive services to kids at home due to the COVID-19 outbreak                         
  • Building Better Lives, Inc.: $10,000 to distribute food weekly to 300+ families in 38108 (Springdale/Hollywood/Hyde Park)
  • Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County: $25,000 to quickly and confidentially serve victims of abuse during the COVID-19 outbreak
  • OUTMemphis: $10,000 to compile and distribute food and hygiene kits to people in need for the duration of the COVID-19 outbreak
  • Refuge Memphis: $5,000 to purchase food/supplies for the Raleigh/Frayser/North Memphis communities                        
  • Room in the Inn – Memphis: $25,000 to provide medical respite for recently discharged patients seeking shelter and considered to be medically fragile                          
  • YWCA of Greater Memphis: $15,000 to provide increased services to victims of domestic abuse during the COVID-19 outbreak  

The seven grant awards were in addition to nine previous weeks’ grants, bringing total grantmaking to $2,011,000 from the fund since March 18.

Representatives from the Fund’s partnership agencies will award grants weekly based on the amount of funds received. The grant committee allocates 60% of available funds to immediate needs and reserves 40% for recovery and resilience funding in the coming months.

About the Mid-South COVID-19 Regional Response Fund

The Mid-South COVID-19 Regional Response Fund is managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, in partnership with City of Memphis, Shelby County Government, United Way of the Mid-South, and Momentum Nonprofit Partners/Mid-South Philanthropy Network. It provides flexible funding to nonprofit organizations serving community members dealing with the economic consequences of the outbreak in West Tennessee, Eastern Arkansas, and Northern Mississippi.
