March 23, 2020 Update

To help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, our physical office is closed through at least April 6, but all staff is working remotely. We are fully equipped to continue operations, and you can expect timely execution of gifts and grants. Staff members are available by email or to return a voicemail message by phone.

March 16, 2020 Update

(March 16, 2020) As the Coronavirus / COVID-19 threat continues, please read updated announcements:

  • The Community Foundation, in partnership with the City of Memphis and several other local leadership institutions, launched the Mid-South COVID-19 Regional Response Fund to provide immediate resources for triage and recovery resources to ensure community resilience. Learn more.
  • Following the Centers for Disease Control's recommendation to limit contact with others, we have made the following changes to spring 2020 events:
  1. The March 31 In the Absence Movie Screening and Q&A is postponed. We will be in touch with a make-up date.
  2. The April 9 Investment Updates are postponed. We will let fundholders and representatives of the nonprofits that co-invest with us know when those briefings are rescheduled.
  3. The April 20 GIVE 365 in-person Finals event is cancelled. However, we will post finalists' 3-minute pitches, and members will have the opportunity to vote for their choices to receive grant funding, as they normally would. GiVERs, stay tuned for details on the virtual Finals.
  • In order to promote health and safety, our office is closed to all outside visitors. If you need to make a grant recommendation or give to your fund, do that through our online giving portal or the U.S. Mail.

March 13, 2020 Statement

(Mar. 13, 2020) As novel Coronavirus developments continue to unfold, the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is monitoring the situation and has implemented a set of practices and precautions in order to safeguard the wellbeing of our staff and stakeholders.  

  • The Community Foundation office remains open, with remote access capabilities offered to the staff members who are homebound due to school closures or preventative self-isolation, should that become necessary. We have instituted more stringent sanitization protocols for both staff and our nightly professional cleaning service.

    As our business operations continue, you can rely on timely service in processing contributions to funds and grant requests.
  • In an abundance of caution and in adherence to recommended social distancing, we are cancelling all nonprofit meetings scheduled in our Community Room through March 31, 2020. Our staff will work with the nonprofit groups who have reserved the room to determine mutually acceptable rescheduled meeting dates, if they so desire.

    We will make a determination on whether to postpone the March 31 In the Absence Movie Screening and Q&A by Tuesday, March 17. We will follow up with additional information as soon as it is available.
  • In this time of market volatility, we—along with our experienced investment committee and investment consultant Gerber/Taylor Associates, Inc.—are carefully monitoring our investments. Fundholders and representatives of the nonprofits that co-invest with us are invite to our annual Investment Update on Thursday, April 9.   • Nonprofits across our community are already feeling the effects of the Coronavirus threat, with health concerns and school closings impacting our vulnerable populations. We encourage you to contribute to local nonprofits that are experiencing interruptions to their services and those that support our community and fellow Mid-Southerners in time of need.
