Community Foundation of Greater Memphis kicks off annual GiVE 365 grant cycle

June 12th, 2014

MEMPHIS, TENN.  (June 12, 2014) – When thunderstorms forced the cancellation of its grant announcement event at the Levitt Shell, GiVE 365 took to social media tonight to kick off its annual grant cycle. The theme for this year’s grants, as voted on by the GiVE 365 membership, is “Collaboration for Change: partnerships that support creative problem-solving in the community.” All grant applicants must respond to this theme. Interested nonprofits should submit applications to give365memphis.org by July 11.

Started in 2010, GiVE 365 is an initiative of the Community Foundation in which members give a dollar a day. Half of that money goes into a grant making pool; the other half goes toward an endowment to grow the program.

“GiVE 365 allows donors to leverage dollars to help nonprofits, often giving more collectively than they could alone,” said Ashley Harper, director of grants and initiatives for the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. “The program is also about becoming a philanthropist and learning more about the nonprofits working in our community.”

In addition to awarding grants, GiVE 365 hosts social and educational events and gives members the chance to actively participate in the grant making process. Volunteer grant review teams read applications and narrow down the list to finalists. Finalists have three minutes to present proposed projects to the GiVE 365 membership at an August event. Members vote online for their choices; then, the grants are allocated.

In 2013, 12 organizations received nearly $90,000 in funding, with the theme "Home is Where the Heart Is" - projects to make Memphis neighborhoods more vibrant, livable, and secure.

  • June 12 – grant theme announced to GiVE 365 membership
  • August 18 – GiVE 365: The Finals at Hattiloo Theatre in Overton Square
  • September 11 – GiVE 365 grant announcement, location TBA
