Wiertelak Fellowships Fund
When Jim Wiertelak retired from Sedgwick CMS in 2011, he forged a legacy beyond his 35 years of company service. Together with wife Gina and Sedgwick CEO Dave North, he created the Wiertelak Fellowships Fund. Friends, family members, and co-workers nationwide were invited to donate.
With 90 contributions and counting, the Wiertelak Fellowship Fund focuses on mentorship, especially for inner-city youth. Local grantees include the Memphis Urban Debate League and the Douglass Elementary chess program. Despite severely limited resources, both organizations help students achieve and champion life lessons in preparation, perseverance, and discipline.
Funding is focused, as Jim says, on “organizations that need the money as opposed to wanting the money.” The Wiertelaks regard their funding as catalyst gifts and hope to make seed investments that inspire other individuals and foundations to contribute.
