Beyond the Classroom

The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis embarked on an innovative, multi-year initiative called Beyond the Classroom to strengthen organizations serving K-12 students in Memphis during their out-of-school time.

We believe that the way to better outcomes for our kids is to help the organizations that serve them measure and maximize the impact of their programs.

We launched Year One (2017) with five diverse, youth-serving organizations. Those agencies have already shown promising results, and we continue to develop a growing network of partners engaged in this work. As Year Two gets underway, we are proud to share the findings from the initiative to date. Click below for the Year One Report.

How can you help?

Strong after-school and summer programs are necessary and underfunded. We believe that those programs can make a bigger difference in the lives of Memphis students if the organizations presenting the programs are operating as effectively as possible and in a coordinated, strategic way.

Progress in Year One showed us that we are on the right track, and that this is valuable work that is producing outcomes. Seeding Success believes this is the genesis of a national model of support for students in their out-of-school time.

Even with our significant investment, the Community Foundation alone can only effect change for a limited number of organizations. With co-investment from our donors and others in the community, we can expand this work to include even more partner agencies in Year Three and beyond,* and in turn produce even greater results for our kids.
