The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis offers four investment pools for charitable assets: 1) a cash equivalent pool, 2) a fixed income pool,
3) a balanced pool, and  4) an equity pool. Each pool is professionally managed with   oversight provided by the Foundation's investment committee and investment consultant Gerber/Taylor Associates, Inc. The most recent quarterly returns are available here.

Investment Philosophy and Return Information
Cash Equivalent Pool - The objective of this pool is to preserve principal. The pool is invested in cash and cash equivalents, including short term bonds and money market funds. Highland Capital Management of Memphis is the manager of the fund.

Fixed Income Pool - The objective of this pool is to preserve principal and provide income. To achieve this objective, the pool is diversified among bond sectors (U.S. Government, agency, corporate, and mortgage backed securities) and investment managers. The investment advisors are Hughes Capital Management, Inc., of Alexandria, Va.; Vanguard Total Market Bond Market Index Fund; and Metropolitan West Asset Management through the Metropolitan West Total Return Bond I.

Balanced Pool
- The objective of this pool is to provide stability of principal and consistent long-term capital appreciation. To achieve this objective, the pool is broadly diversified among equities, fixed income securities, cash equivalents and alternative investments, as well as by market sector and investment manager. The target allocation is 62 percent to equities; 25 percent to fixed income securities and cash equivalents; 10 percent to alternative investments; and 3 percent to real estate. The fixed income manager is Highland Capital Management of Memphis. The alternative investments manager is Private Advisors, LLC of Richmond, Va. The real estate manager is ING Clarion of New York. Equity Pool
- The objective of this pool is to provide long term capital appreciation. To achieve this objective, the pool is broadly diversified by market capitalization (large, medium and small), country (domestic and international) and investment management style (value and growth). More detail
