GrowMemphis improves access to nutritious food, while strengthening relationships within communities

One woman's idea for a neighborhood garden has grown into a nonprofit helping to plant gardens and improve nutrition all over Memphis. GrowMemphis, a project of the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center, is now an independent nonprofit organization and is celebrating on Oct. 15 with its Harvest Party. The Community Foundation helped with a Community Partnership Fund grant to the Peace and Justice Center in 2010.

In addition to continuing its original work of promoting community gardening, GrowMemphis has expanded its mission to advocacy for policies that promote local agriculture and better access to nutritious food. This work has been supported by the Healthy Eating Active Living initiative of the Community Foundation.
