Frank and Linda Smith

Frank and Linda Smith’s mission is to make a difference in Memphis and around the globe in Zambia, Africa.

“We concentrate our efforts in specific areas where we can commit ourselves to changing the current situation,” said Frank. Most of Linda’s attention goes to Lester Elementary School in the Binghamton neighborhood where her goal is to work toward a community school that nurtures kids as well as any private school.

On the other side of the world, in the southern province of Zambia, the couple sees an entirely different view of poverty. “We want to encourage a spirit of self-sufficiency in Zambia,” said Frank, “especially within the upcoming generation, in this country that is so desperate.”

Frank and Linda Smith give to others in every sense of the word. They view their work not only as a way to help others, but also in answer to a call from God to use their abilities and resources for the good of those who have little.

Self-sufficiency is the goal in Zambia

Each Zambian village is like a large extended family. Despite the high number of adult deaths from AIDS, none of the affected children become orphans; they are taken in by other families.

Installing wells can change life in the Zambian bush country. “It costs us about $4,000 to bore a well but it does wonders for their self-sufficiency,” says Frank Smith.
