In 2008, the Community Foundation joined The Assisi Foundation of Memphis, the City of Memphis, and local community development corporations to discuss the best ways to drive neighborhood redevelopment in Memphis. The consensus was that the local neighborhood redevelopment industry must be reshaped for effective revitalization in Memphis. The group developed a
comprehensive plan and hired Eric Robertson to as project manager. One of Robertson’s first responsibilities was the formation of Community LIFT, a nonprofit organization that will carry out many of the report recommendations.
Community LIFT – Leveraging Investments for Transformation – will work closely with city officials, the local business and banking community, and the Community Development Council, a membership organization of local community development organizations.
