Tell us a little about yourself.
I moved to Memphis 20+ years ago to open BookStar at Poplar Plaza. I had already lived in seven states but somehow knew that Memphis was where I was supposed to be. I loved it right away, and for sure consider myself a Memphian!
How did you hear about GiVE 365 and why did you join?
I read about GIVE 365 online and Facebook and liked the concept. It's important to me that people get interested and involved in community nonprofits and 365 gives the community a wonderful opportunity to "go behind the scenes" and really dig into what particular home-based nonprofits are all about.
Who do you think is doing great work in the city?
I love what Edible Memphis, Grow Memphis, Skate Life Memphis, Livable Memphis, Bomb the Blight, Memphis Sierra Club, Shelby Farms and Hattiloo Theatre have all done and continue to do for Memphis. AND, there are so many more ... this list could get really long!! The amount of love and energy that goes into this city is amazing and with Mayor Wharton at the helm, it will only get better!
Favorite place in Memphis?
Other than all the great local restaurants, I love love love Shelby Farms, The Memphis Farmers Market and The National Ornamental Metal Museum. What treasures!
And, of course – your favorite superhero?
All of the hardworking farmers. They are REAL super heros!
