Duncan and Julie Miller

Tell us a little about yourself.

Duncan is a Portfolio Manager and Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner with Legacy Wealth Management. Julie is busy raising their two boys (ages 6 and 3) and teaching part time at Emmanual United Methodist Kindergarten. 

How long have you been a Memphian?

Duncan grew up about an hour outside of Memphis in Arkansas, but spent much of his life coming to Memphis to see his grandparents and began working in Memphis during summers in high school. He settled in Memphis in ’92 after graduating from college (with one brief interruption for grad school). Julie grew up in Corinth, Miss., and made Memphis her home in ’98 when she moved to Memphis to teach second grade in the Shelby County Schools system.

Why did you join GiVE 365?

I have been closely involved with the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis for some time through my work with clients at Legacy Wealth Management and have seen the positive impact that individuals and CFGM can have on our community. Give 365 seemed a great way to get more deeply involved in the community and its challenges. With the matching gifts from CFGM and Legacy, it was a great way to leverage the financial impact that I could make on the program. Watching the local news is often very frustrating, but staying on the sidelines and complaining doesn’t help make Memphis a better place for my kids to grow up. I look forward to meeting some of the people in Memphis who are working hard to make this a stronger community.

Who do you think is doing exceptional work in Memphis?

The Boys and Girls Clubs.  They provide an outstanding alternative to life on the streets for many kids in our city.
